The shock wave knocked him back a couple of feet.
Heels dug into the ground to prevent himself sliding further back
He looked up at Sephiroth. He could feel the cells move through him.

The more he fought Seph, the more he could feel the cells reacting.
They wanted this battle they wanted him to take Sephiroth.
Force him back into her love. Back where he belonged.

Zack was doing this because she asked, but he knew he didn't have much time.
Sephiroth had to yield before he lost all of himself to the cells.
"Always so stubborn." Zack growled low.

He charged back at Sephiroth spinning the blade round.
Using the blunt end he dropped it low catching Sephiroth in the back of his leg.
"On your knees."

The pain shot through his leg as it caught the sensitive back of his knee and caused it to nearly crumple. The blade of the Masamune had been brought up between their bodies and the sharp edge of the blade pressed slowly against bare skin. He was stronger than he had last faced him, but just as likely he couldn't allow himself to make that final blow.

The strike from Zack had been powerful, more than enough to sheer through any normal human's bones and crush the ligaments within the knee. But he had never been even human.

"If you desire me to kneel force me down yourself."

Zack let out a growl, the masamune was there against his chest.
He pressed against the blade feeling it cut into his top.
Aerith wanted him to kill Seph, Jenova wants him to turn Seph.
While Zack just plain outright wanted Sephiroth for himself.

Zack's hand pulled at the sword caught behind Sephiroth's leg.
His other hand moving to Seph's shoulder to push him back.
Fully aware of the blade as it cut through the fabric of his top.
He could feel the sting of metal as it pressed into his chest.

There was pain, but nothing more than what he was feeling emotionally.
The cells seemed to pulsate through him the closer he got to Sephiroth.
They wanted him to force him into submission.
It was an over powering seduction he had no control over.

Angeal paused briefly as he watched the fight between Zack and Sephiroth, frowning to himself he shook his head, something needed to be done before Sephiroth was forced to kill Zack, he couldn't let either of them go through that.

He looked across to where Nero...or was it Jenova now...was standing, seemingly unguarded. Perhaps if she was distracted enough it could help Zack regain control enough to stop further damage. He knew this would probably not end well in the slightest, his face was hurting almost to the point of distraction, but he couldn't just do nothing. It was just like any other injury, mind over matter.

His grip on his sword tightened, taking a breath he ran at Jenova from behind, swinging his blade at her.

Sephiroth knew he could take the upper hand as the blade cut into Zack's shirt and skin. It would only take a small amount of power to push it deep enough to cut into bone and let him bleed and die. His leg still throbbed and even he could feel it giving out from the strength of the strike.

Submit or kill.

He could move the Masamune, cut deeper, he would win the fight and Zack would be safe. But that small move... It would kill him. He would die by his own hand in his arms and muscles would not respond to the order as his leg crumpled.

One knee hit but he didn't blink as the pain blossomed within it. He had been through worse. He had been pierced by blades before and still fought on. And deep down he knew he didn't truly try, as if he had wanted this to happen.

Zack's hand moved from Sephiroth's shoulder into his hair.
He pulled it back roughly leaning in as close as he could get.
The blade was cutting into his skin and he could feel the blood trickling down from the wound.
His mouth moved slowly. "I don't want to kill you, I can't. But Aerith wants me to."

Zack could feel the hand holding Seph's hair twitch a moment to fight the cells.
The pain seemed to help as he pressed closer to Sephiroth.
"Aerith wants to destroy the goddess and taint he lifestream." He whispered.
He gave Seph a look that told him, he only came this way as an excuse to warn him.

"Wasn't expecting the boost." His hand clutched at the blade of the masamune.
The pain giving him a moment of sanity. He pulled the blade down low.
If Seph could help him fight the cells he'd be okay. They could take down nero together.
But not when the cells wanted Zack to carve a path into Sephiroth. Force him to join them again.

Sephiroth didn't react to the message that was passed along. One slip up and she would know her hold on Zack was not as strong as it had been. But now he knew and it settled his mind enough. But the ancient was a problem. If he let her live she would corrupt the life stream and bring the planets life to an end. If he killed her again would Zack ever forgive him?

But now was not the time for that.

Even as the hand clenched in his hair Sephiroth remained still and let Zack pull him closer. “I will do what I can to keep her alive but first Jenova," Sephiroth's voice was barely above a whisper and even as Zack cut his hand the crippled leg moved and he pushed himself back up. The pain of it couldn't matter and it didn't.

Zack had to agree Jenova needed to be taken down first.
They could take her down together. But the cells were longing for Sephiroth.
"Cells are focused on you. You gotta hurt me to give me control of my body."
It was the last thing he could manage to say of his own free will.

When Sephiroth pushed himself back up.
Zack took the moment to jump a couple of meters back.
He looked to the blood on his left hand from gripping the masamune and the blood on his chest.
How much of this blood was still his own anymore he didn't know.

Zack's grip on the sword, Cloud's sword tightened.
He could feel the need the cells wanted to lunge at Sephiroth claim him.

The red blood stained the bright metal of the blade and Sephiroth drew it back as soon as Zack jumped away. Lightly it dripped from it and his attention locked on Zack. If that was what it took to save him he would do so.

Sephiroth moved quickly and the numerous slashes cut towards him. Zack needed to survive but he just as much needed the pain. He could save him by harming him.

Aerith watch in wonder as Zack had begun fighting Sephiroth; it was almost poetic justice in her eyes. As she was killed by Cloud’s idol and Zack’s present lover, it would be Zack that killed him and if the planet smiled on her, Cloud would help sooner or later.

Cloud.

In her haste to follow Zack as she believe that he was going to hurt Nero, she forgot about Cloud standing there pouring his heart out, about his feelings for Zack. And all Aerith could think of was that Zack was already with Sephiroth, the murderer.

It was the sight of Zack’s blood that had brought Aerith back into reality, while she wasn’t new to the sight of war, but it was the sight of Zack, prefect Zack, bleeding was the problem. If he was wounded, he would have a harder time fighting Sephiroth and have a harder time killing him.

“Great Gospel!” Aerith shouted as she flung her hand out towards Zack as Sephiroth’s slashes cut towards her old lover.

Nero watched the violence between Zack and Sephiroth, but was not unaware of Angeal's presence. The Negative Lifestream beneath his feet could feel Angeal's footsteps and when the larger man swung his blade, Nero glanced over his shoulder and burst into wisps of green flame.

Nero reappeared behind the man and shook his head.

"Did you forget, my dear, that you were once a part of us too? It was always so hard for us to madden your mind... you were a tougher shell to crack than Sephiroth and not as curious as to the science behind you as Genesis... Sickening, really, that you -- born from a womb claimed by my cells -- never once tapped into your inner-self."

Nero sighed and tilted his head, letting the silver hairs move lightly to the side.

"No matter, child, I am not illusioned: I know you will never join us." He moved his body into a combat stance and offered a smile, "But I would thrill for another chance for you to feel powerless!"

Zack barely had time to move as the slashes came.
He felt the impact of each one save the last one.
The cells had clicked and his body had moved in time.
It didn't mean he wasn't hurt. He knew he was hurt.

There was blood, alot. Not as much as when he died.
But he was still bleeding.
He became instantly aware of the ray of light above him and he looked up.
"Dude..." The three angels descended from above him.

Zack's eyes went flat. That would not work in his and Seph's favour.
He could feel the jolt of the cells again. The blade spun round several times.
Leaping up in the air several balls of fire were shot through the sword.
They were aimed directly at Sephiroth.

Angeal paused as Nero briefly disappeared, faltering only a moment until he heard his voice behind and he whirled around, watching him warily.

No, he hadn't forgotten anything that he'd been through, but he'd managed to keep his head, he'd just focused on trying to help Genesis and protect Sephiroth from finding out the truth, until it had become too much...he shook his head to himself.

“No,” he agreed, “But I'm not intending to let you take Zack and Sephiroth either,” he told him, hoping that dealing with Nero would be enough to snap Zack out of it...if not...he wouldn't let Sephiroth deal with it. His grip on his sword tightening as he surged forward, swinging his blade at him.

The darkness was overwhelming and he could feel it probing at his heart, Minerva's protection all that stopped it from seeping in. It knew him - he could feel that it was familiar to him and he was familiar to it, and as the shard around his neck glowed he knew that he was facing something inevitable.

Kadaj's hand clasped the shard at his neck only briefly to cast Silence on Aerith and then Blind on himself. The darkness swirling and shrouding him and making him indistinguishable from the swirling Negative Stream that was beneath their feet.

It was almost as though he was in a trance as he walked through the fighting, his eyes fixed on the newest abomination that Jenova had created. Using their own darkness against them, and the distraction of Angeal, he moved behind them, the Sadamune poised for a moment before moving to plunge into their back.

"It seems that once again, Mother, you failed to account for your most loyal of sons. You wonder why I don't love you any more? Who can love that which they do everything for and receive nothing from."

Sephiroth knew he had to injure him, but the clenching pain continued as each except for the last drew lines of blood over Zack's body. He landed lightly on the ground before eyes flashed towards Aerith. Even on opposite sides from what they were still she stopped what he needed to do. She healed Zack of the injuries, made him susceptible once again to Jenova's control.

Eyes focused and the blade of the Masamune met the meteors as he jumped back once again. He ran forward and the Masamune struck forward to push Zack back.

He couldn't let Jenova take Zack, not when he had promised to keep him safe, even at the cost of his own life. He would do this, free him, but as much as he knew he had equally sworn he could not take Zack's life.

Zack had only just landed on the ground when Sephiroth charged.
He'd forgotten or his body had, how quick Seph truly was.
The block he managed had only just been in time.
Part of him didn't want to block, he wanted to take the hit. But his body responded to the cells.

This entire thing could go on forever at this rate.
The battle hurt him mentally and had been physically till Aerith.
He had always been jealous of Cloud that he got to sight along side her.
Something he had never really gotten.

Now he finally got that but his body was Jenova's and Aerith wasn't on their side.
Zack pushed back against the masamune, his eyes locking with Sephiroth's over the metal.
He couldn't even say he was sorry, if Aerith was helping him, there had to be another way.
"Find your strongest move." He hissed. "Use it."

Sephiroth nearly faltered as soon as Zack ordered that. He knew the attack in an instant, know what he was asking, but just as he knew it he couldn't do it. He couldn't unleash that type of power on him. But even as he refused to he had already started to gather the energy he needed for it.

It seemed instinct would do so even as his mind refused it. Sephiroth pressed the blade back and flipped the blade around to pierce through Zack's body with the full force of the blade and the added strength of the heartless angel. The mask had slipped, the pain too great to attempt to cling to it. Fingers shook slightly and he drew in a shaky breath.

Nero grinned and charged forward as well. He caught the big blade's swing upon his two, smaller gunblades and shook slightly at the force. "Such a shame, really, you would have made a good son!"

Nero's wings suddenly expanded, sending surges of green lightning to the clouds above.

Cackles of a storm could be heard above Edge as Nero kept his blades locked with the Buster Sword.

At that moment, Kadaj's blade stabbed through Nero's stomach and he chuckled. His body began to pulsate; and, inside, his intestines began to wrap around the sword, locking it in place.

"Silly little boy," he whispered. "And what exactly did you accomplish for me? If I remember correctly, you did nothing but fail. Fail and transform into your big brother, who also failed. You foolishly thought I wanted you to turn into Sephiroth, did you?" Acidic body fluids began to spill out from the wound, whirling itself around the blade and moving towards the hilt.

"I liked Sephiroth for his independence, and that is the reason I was never be able to love any of you three remnants. At this very moment, Loz and Yazoo are struggling to gain that independence, and now I can love them... but you, you... foolish child... You've taken the Goddess into you, made yourself her caller, her spirit, her Cetra, and here you stand, believing cloaking yourself in Darkness will hide you from the Negative Lifestream?"

Nero's head suddenly began twisting around until it made a 180, facing Kadaj. "I'm sorry to say, but as The Sable, Darkness is my element." With a flash of red light out of his eyes, the darkness around Kadaj dispersed and the Negative Lifestream began to rumble beneath the ground as it found its new target.

Zack felt the blade pierce through him. He could see Sephiroth's true expression.
His hand gripped the blade as he sucked in a breath.
"I'll be okay Seph... I'll be, fine." He squeezed his hand round it trying to loose the blood from his hand.
He could feel his very strength being zapped.

The blood that fell from his body, that was the purpose.
To regain his mind. He would have to loose those cells, the only way to bleed them out.
He could feel his own body again, it moved as he willed it to. Mostly given the damage.
"Thanks." He knew though this would not work for long.

The only way to make sure he stayed in control was to hurt Aerith. If she healed him again...
He pulled himself on the blade more, moving into Seph's personal space.
Lips pressed against Sephiroth's mouth quickly.
Hopefully that kiss would dissuade her from healing him.

"Finish it okay Seph."

No matter the promise he wasn't certain he could believe it. Sephiroth could feel Zack so close and fingers buried into the black hair. He pressed into the kiss as the blade was pushed the rest of the way.

His muscles shook slightly as the blade was drawn back and he clung tightly to Zack for a long moment. "Leave Zack, get away from this battle."

The risk was too great now that he could lose him. One hit was all it could take. The hand in his hair craddled the back of his head and pulled him close before he kissed the top of his head and moved away. Sephiroth had to force himself to release Zack as he drew away. His taste was still on his lips, his blood still coated him and his blade.

Slowly his gaze lifted and the glare landed on the ancient. She would have kept him as a slave to Jenova.

When Sephiroth's lips pressed against him, he lost the grip of the sword.
The metal clattering to the ground as Seph released him and stepped back.
Zack felt the strength he needed to even stand was gone and sunk to his knees.
Sephiroth wanted him to get away, it was really hard when he could barely move.
Well maybe he could, but he didn't want to leave them all.
He'd rather just sit here in his own blood than leave Seph to deal to Jenova by himself.
"Not going anywhere." He whispered, "You go finish Nero I'll catch up."

Angeal grit his teeth as their blades locked, "Perhaps," he muttered surprised at the force Nero had as he tried to pull his blade free, although as Nero spoke to someone else he paused and looked behind, realising that Kadaj must have been up to something, while he was relieved to see the other was safe, he doubted it would be for long.

"Get away from here kid," He growled to Kadaj, all he needed was to add Kadaj's welfare to the list of things on his mind, although even he had to pause as Nero's head spun around, it was a whole new level of 'what the hell' but still he couldn't get his blade free, even though his head...was facing...the other way... creepy, even by his standards, their blades were still locked.

He let the blade go and spun to the side bringing his leg up to kick at Nero's forearm, hoping to break it at best, at worst loosen his grip briefly.

The power of Aerith’s magic healed Zack, restoring him to his full potential, as he casted several balls of fire towards Sephiroth. Aerith could only stand back and smile at her handiwork, as the death of her murderer was near, but Aerith felt that her moment of happiness was a fragile memory.

Aerith felt the hair on her head started to stand as the feeling of magic was headed her way, turning, Aerith held out her hand, palm out.

“Dispel.”

The spell shattered as her dispel destroyed the spell that the white-hair Sephiroth-clone had cast on her, it had seem that she would have to be more careful as she did not needed to be a target, for unlike Rosso, she wouldn’t be able to fight with her swords.

Turning back towards Zack and Sephiroth, Aerith watched in horror as Sephiroth drew his sword and pierced through Zack, but the horror started as Zack was right in his confession earlier as he brought himself closer to Sephiroth to kiss him, Sephiroth accept and they continued to make out.

It was a slap in the face, but the chill as Sephiroth’s gaze fell on her, Aerith began to breathe deeply, charging her magic for a few quick spells.

Sephiroth turned back towards Zack for a moment. He needed Zack to leave. One hit was all it would likely take without healing. He couldn't run that risk, not after he had been protected from at least Jenova's touch for a moment. "Heal yourself if you are able to as soon as it is safe to do so. If you risk your life unnecessarily I will let Angeal throw you over his shoulder and take you away."

He lifted his head once again as he moved towards Aerith. If she healed Zack again like she had Jenova would take control. She may have as well just handed him over to her. He wanted her to pay for what she had just done, what her actions had made him do, but Zack wanted her alive.

If he could at least knock her unconscious she wouldn't create further problems. But she was a danger to Zack, to Kadaj, to himself, to the entire planet. She wanted him dead, wanted to corrupt the lifestream. The blood stained hair hung around him and the ripped shirt clung to his body with the red stain of blood. As the ground rumbled he turned his head towards Nero and eyes focused on them.

"Kadaj..."

Zack looked up at Sephiroth. He knew Seph was right. One hit and he was a goner.
But to heal himself would Jenova's control come back? He didn't know.
One would think it was impossible given how much of his own blood surrounded him.
"If I heal myself and I'm not me anymore. I'll just come after you again."

Zack slowly managed to push himself up. But the standing part not his strong point.
He swallowed lightly and he could taste his own blood in his throat.
Zack took a step back from Seph. Looking at him covered in blood. Mostly his he knew it.
"Go help Kadaj I'll just be over there." He motioned and took a shaky step back.

Each movement seemed to send a jolt of pain through his body. There would be no healing.
Not from himself. Not until he knew he would remain himself. He hurt Sephiroth emotionally.
He probably scarred Aerith and Cloud for the rest of their lives.
Angeal wouldn't just drag him away from here he'd probably clip him over the back of the head.

Slowly he made it a reasonable distance from the battle.
Then he just plonked to the ground and fell on his back.
Conscious, just lying there looking up at the sky.
