Main Story
Arc VI

[Cid's airship and passengers arrive at the WRO, Tseng calls Rufus to inform him.
Meanwhile Zack takes Yuffie and Denzel to the place where he got his change of clothes from.
Reeve, Tseng and Reno arrive at the landing zone in time to see the newly arrived group depart the highwind.
Zack takes Yuffie and Denzel to get them materia from the WRO shop.
Reeve makes an announcement at the landing pad to get some rest and says he will call a meeting tomorrow morning.
Materia bought for Denzel and Yuffie, Zack take the two to the landing pad running into Rufus in the elevator.
The current group: Cloud, Vincent, Reeve, Cid, Yuffie, Zack, Sephiroth, Genesis Denzel, Rufus, Tseng, Reno,Dark Nation, Kadaj, Yazoo and Loz,
are reunited on the roof. Kadaj, Loz and Yazoo take their leave from said group.
Jenova mentally 'speaks' to her children causing mixed reactions.
The groups part the roof to do their own things.

As the night continues on Jenova mentally assaults the infected.
Zack, Yazoo, Kadaj, Loz, Tseng and Reno all head towards her Cloud joining them last.
Upon arrival she offers them gifts and completes Zack’s infection while Reno is captured.
She continues to talk with the others. Cloud falls in to a mental coma from just being around Jenova.
Sephiroth leaves his own room to speak with Rufus.
Meanwhile Genesis contacts Sephiroth and Denzel contacts Zack.

In order to become an agent Zack helps release Reno and takes Cloud before retreating back to the WRO.]

The sun had risen above the city, and as the light shone in slightly green eyes flickered open for a moment. Instinctively Sephiroth reached for Masamune and sat up. The events of the previous night returned quickly, the memories of the mental assault from Jenova, the conversation with Rufus, and the call from Genesis. He would have to speak to his friend, and this was a conversation that could not wait long.

There was only one conclusion in Sephiroth's mind, that Jenova had spoken to Genesis as well. There was a flickering concern for his friend that was gone as quickly as it appeared. Were Genesis to fall he would face him, and anyone else who stood in the way of his redemption.

Slowly Sephiroth stood and silently dressed before he retrieved Masamune.

It was a new day, and both Deep Ground and Jenova had to be stopped.

Denzel turned over and tried to cover his head with the pillow as soon as the sun hit his face. He gave a groan as he drifted between sleep and wake before the light forced him awake. Finally forced awake he pushed himself up and then winced slightly as he felt a twinge through his whole body. His entire body ached from the use yesterday, between the battle and training.

He let himself collapse back against the bed and flopped back over before forcing his body to wake up. Arms forced himself up as he felt another twinge of soreness down his arms. Feet hit the ground as Denzel finally forced himself up and then saw Zack.

That was right... he had stayed in Zack's room last night. Slowly he pushed himself up and approached the man before putting a hand on him and shaking lightly. "Zack... it's morning."

Zack had promised him he would teach him how to dodge bullets today.

Zack felt the hand on him shaking him and he groaned, still sluggish from his sleep.
"Ngggh... five more minutes." He complained pulling the pillow of the couch over his head.
It took his brain a moment to register the voice, realizing it was Denzel and he sat up.
The promise of training. Then the memories of mother's gift, he looked to his arm where she had touched him.
Corrected his cells, he could feel her very presence like it moved inside him.
He squeezed his fist open then close slowly. Even so far from her, she felt so close, consuming.
He was distracted from his thoughts as the light hit the corner of his eyes.

Zack stared at the sun streaming through the window trying to will it go away so he could get just a few more moment's rest.
"Why do you hate me so? Why mornings? Why?" He mumbled.
But it continued to shine, brightly. Zack let his head fall into his hand.
"Okay yeah... breakfast first and me I need caffeine... lots of it."
He stood up placing a hand on Denzel's head ruffling his hair.

Rufus heard Sephiroth wake, but he remained lying there for a few moments as the former General dressed and retrieved his sword.
Finally he sat up and looked at Sephiroth. He had always been a light sleeper since childhood, but the slightest movement now he was alert, he'd been that way ever since WEAPON's attack. He never forced himself to break the habit, it was handy to have when one was as hated as he was.
There was only one other person on all of Gaia hated more than him and Rufus was looking at him.

Standing up he grabbed his coat and slipped it on.
"I trust you slept well..." He stated to Sephiroth.
Rufus then moved to Dark Nation sliding his gloves on before petting Dark Nation on the head.
"Time to get up."

At the request Denzel groaned as he stood there. He wasn't about to let Zack go back to sleep when he was already awake. However it seemed that he wouldn't have to wake Zack up again as Denzel watched him sit up. He didn't want to bother Zack but the idea of training excited him and the teen was barely able to hold still. He would learn more about fighting and soon he would be able to fight beside Cloud without him always needing to worry about him.

"Okay! And then we can train?" Denzel asked as he took a step back away from Zack. He reached down for his jacket and pulled it on, the only clothing he had taken off during the night.

Now that it was mentioned his stomach grumbled loudly, a reminder that he hadn't eaten since yesterday. He was starving and he needed some food before he started training. He looked over at Zack, his blue eyes locked on him eagerly.

Zack blinked for a moment looking at Denzel and he nodded. He remembered being as eager as Denzel was at his age.
Of course his parents didn't let him train, he had to sneak off and join the army. He wouldn't stifle that progress for Denzel.
Not when he had the potential to be a good fighter.

"Of course. But we gotta keep it to this floor, but for the bullet dodging thing I think we can just train outside."
Zack opened the bedroom door and headed into the hall and looked down either side.
"Remember kitchen is..." He mused and nodded. "That way."
Zack led Denzel down the hall and pushed open a door to see the kitchen and nodded.

He opened up a cupboard and pulled out several boxes of cereal. When he found a stash of energy drinks and popped a can open for himself.
"Okay which one." He asked after he downed half the can looking at the cereal boxes.
This substitute dad thing was going to take some getting used to. But he didn't mind the idea.
Zack was actually forward to it.

"Well enough," Sephiroth turned back towards Rufus for a moment and his gaze fell on the blond for a moment. He had some rest and that was good enough as far as he was concerned. Masamune was replaced once again as he walked towards the door. Jenova's voice wasn't there, it had not been there since the second contact that night.

Her presence was still there, still powerful, a constant pull at his mind, however it was one he could resist. She was the one that truly stood in the way of his redemption and he would not allow it.

His first task of the morning would be to locate Genesis and find what he had wanted to say late into the night when he called. He needed his friend to stay strong, one less wall in the way of his redemption would make things truly easier.

Denzel pulled on his boots and jacket before he hurried after Zack out the door. Eagerly he caught up with him and then slowed down in order to follow him closely. For a moment his mind was on Tifa and Cloud again and wondered if Tifa was okay. He hadn't seen her since she had left the bar, and hadn't seen Marlene since he left. Marlene was younger, and he had just wanted to figure things out. He had been too curious, had needed to know what was happening.

He was going to go back but he had been captured and now everything was gone.

"I'll have that one," Denzel said as he lifted his head, shaken from his thoughts by Zack's voice. He reached for the box and opened it before opening it up and poured some into a bowl. He was hungry, it ate away at him, but still there was a constant worry. He had heard her voice in his mind that night, had been scared by it, but he needed it now that it was gone.

Zack put the other boxes of cereal away. One thing about Reeve was he had everything set up so they didn't leave this floor.
But that was one thing you never did to ex 1st first class SOLDIER's was lock them up like this.
Zack popped some toast into the toaster and poured a couple of glasses of juice one for Denzel and the other for himself.
"There we go juice, the sugar in that should give you enough temporary energy to keep you going this morning."

Zack tossed the empty energy drink can into the bin.
He lent against the counter waiting on his breakfast to be done looking out the window.
Last night still felt surreal in his mind.

"Enjoy your day... General." Rufus remarked to Sephiroth's retreating back.
It was the only hint he was going to throw out there about SOLDIER until he made the official announcement.
But first he had to see and hope that Tseng and Reno had returned.

Walking to the door or lack there of one, Rufus let out a breath.
At least Dark Nation wouldn't have to worry about being locked in his room.
Rufus lifted the door up with ease, and frowned at how much the weight to him resembled lifting plywood.
Rufus set the broken doors against the wall on the opposite side of the corridor, in hope that it would be recorded that he needed a new one.

"I should get this checked out." He mused looking at his hands.
Rufus knew this ability of strength was not natural.
He didn't want Reno to feel bad for infecting him or Tseng. But at least he knew now he could protect himself if need be.
Rufus let out a whistle for Dark Nation to follow him, it was time he began to set today's plans in motion.

Denzel reached for the milk and poured some into his bowl before replacing it and took his juice. Some of it was gulped down and then placed down before Denzel started to hungrily eat the cereal. The only thing on his mind at that moment was finishing his breakfast so he could begin his training. It would make him stronger and right now that was all that mattered. The idea of becoming as strong as Cloud was a distant dream but it was one that he would stop at nothing to complete.

With more of the cereal eaten Denzel took a few more gulps of the juice.

The twinges of soreness were long forgotten as he focused on what would be coming. Strength... and fighting... it was what he needed, everything in him screamed for violence and blood. It scared him, his mind seeming like a predator, and all he could think about was that it was Hojo's fault.

At the rank Sephiroth lifted his head. It had been years since he had been addressed as such. Not since Nibelheim, when he had last been a member of ShinRa. It had been another life, one filled with purpose, but it was gone. It had disappeared the same as his mind had, so completely controlled by Jenova's presence, however that was long ago. He was no longer the same man he had been those many years ago.

Strength had returned to his mind and defeat would not be accepted. First there was Genesis to see to. After the previous night his mind was on his friend. Would he even be there when he arrived, or did he lose control and retreat?

Later, that was for later to discover. The silver hair moved as he strode forward.

Tseng yawned at the sunlight streamed through the window and hit his eyes. Unfolding his wing and arm from around Reno he sat up, a hand to his head.

When they arrived at the WRO Tseng had flown up to the correct floor and found a room with an open window. He wasn't about to set off the security and sensors by using his key card to access the building, who knows what they'd do to him. Climbing in through the window he'd found it was unoccupied and only a single bed was in it, but he'd shared with Reno in the past on previous missions so he'd thought nothing about sleeping with the red head this time.. but judging by the sun's position he'd only been asleep for a couple of hours.

Sighing softly he looked back at his wings then down at his suit. He was covered in blood, his and Reno's. "I'm going to have to burn this." He muttered to himself, sliding off the bed and stretching, making a mental note to talk to Sephiroth or Zack about how you put these damn wings away.

Reno slowly pushed himself up with a chuckle at Tseng's mutterings; he had hardly slept himself, too acutely aware that if he fell asleep that Jenova could grip Tseng again and he would be none the wiser.

"It wouldn't be the first, yo," he yawned, stretching a little. "It certainly won't be the last... not if we've got a fight to come."

He slipped from the bed, flexing his toes and stretching again, seemingly preoccupied with waking up but in truth watching Tseng very closely - it would be a long while before he stopped.

"So... breakfast?"

Dark Nation put off moving for as long as he could, quite comfortable on him blanket in the corner and content that nothing untoward was happening - he had slept through all the late night arrivals seeing as he'd had a very busy day and no naps. Normally he'd have laid and watched the silver haired man until he left but even hounds have to sleep sometime.

His ears pricked up at the whistle and he got up with a stretch, a yawn, and a quick shudder from nose to tail before trotting off after his Master, nose twitching as he took in all the scents of the morning.

"Eat of you must, I have too much work to do, especially now." Tseng said swiftly, adjusting his tie and frowning at the state of his hair. It'll have to do. He thought and headed out the door into the hallway.

Tseng was determined to find the President before anything else. He needed to shower and change his suit badly, but reporting to Rufus and finding out his judgement was the most important thing on his list right now. He had a feeling Rufus was probably infected now too, thanks to Reno, so he'd be on this floor.

That was when he heard the clicking of claws and walked towards the corner, turning down the hall they were coming from to see Rufus and Dark Nation approaching his direction.

Dark Nation stopped dead still as he smelt Tseng, slowly stalking forwards as the man rounded the corner. A growl rose up in the back of his throat as he threw himself forwards, charging at Tseng and knocking him back, front paws pinning his shoulders, back paws pinning his thighs, teeth bared and at Tseng's throat ready for the command to tear him apart if it was given.

"You have time to eat something before we go and wake up his Blondness, ok?" Reno sighed, following him out, feeling particularly under dressed to be roaming the hallways seeing as he'd never gotten back into uniform before everything had happened.

He had no time to react to the growl he heard before Tseng was pinned under the hound, Reno staring on in disbelief. "Hey, DN, it's ok," he said softly, crouching down and hands up in surrender. "Hey boy, it's ok. He's ok now - I promise. I won't let him do anything... but it's probably a good idea if you don't stand on him..."

"Then all my precautions so he doesn't get infected would be in vain." Rufus stated.
He motioned to the 'booties' Dark Nation still had on his paws from the day prior.
He nodded at Tseng. "Welcome back, it's good to see you're of sane mind today."

Rufus gave Dark Nation a rub under the chin.
"You can let him up Dark Nation. I trust Reno would not have brought an insane Tseng to this floor."
He reached into his pocket and unwrapped a treat for Dark Nation holding it out.
"But good boy, your reflexes are still as sharp as ever."

Zack had just finished putting the spread on his toast when he heard the sound in the hall of something hitting the ground.
He stuck his head out the door toast in mouth.
He saw the collective of Dark Nation, Rufus, Tseng and Reno. He saw Rufus nod a head in his direction.
Zack raised a brow, before walking back into the kitchen and sitting back down at the table.

Zack chuckled watching Denzel inhale his food.
"Easy now you have to digest that before we train, I don't want you bringing it up later." He patted Denzel on the head.
"We have all day to train so don't be in a rush all the time. There is plenty of time."

It was growing increasingly difficult to be patient. It had only been a few years since he had been turned away from the WRO but still to suddenly have the chance to fight open before him, it was overwhelming. Everything he had dreamt of for the past few years was coming true, and with the presence in his mind constantly pushing and the urges to kill that seemed to run through his thoughts every time he stopped fighting, he couldn't stop. This training was what he needed and for the first time in a long time he felt it was where he belonged.

Denzel forced himself to slow down and put the spoon down for a moment.

Besides, it wasn't like he could go home. He couldn't sit there with Marlene with this urge to kill. He would hurt her or worse, or he would make her sick like he made Cloud. "Is Cloud gonna be okay? Since I made him sick..."

He knew Cloud was strong, if anyone would be okay it had to be him, but still it ate at his mind. He had made Cloud sick, made Cloud hear that voice that had scared him.

Zack stopped and put his toast down. He let out a breath. He had wanted to wait to tell Denzel, but the kid had asked.
"Cloud... he's not adjusting at the moment. I spoke to him last night. Sooo we both think it's going to be better for you, if it's just you and me kiddo."
Zack hated not being completely honest but Cloud's words, they were to harsh to pass onto Denzel.
So a little white lie with some sugar coating wouldn't hurt for now.

"Whatever happens though, you can not blame yourself for what happens to Cloud." Zack gave Denzel a serious glance.
"I was an idiot I should have stopped you from hugging him, you didn't know and I did and I stood there like a dunce and let it happen."
Zack sighed. "So do not let that guilt eat at you. My bad and Hojo's. This thing is spreading like wild fire and if it wasn't you then someone else would have."
He placed a hand on Denzel's head. "So it's just you and me kiddo. so just think of the good things okay. You wake up urge to learn to kick some ass and can't get back to sleep and I'm up..." He smiled. "Anytime so long as I'm conscious and you want to learn anything. I'll do whatever I can to help."

He would be with Zack... for a moment Denzel nodded his head. Slowly he ate again as he stared down. He would become strong so Cloud didn't have to worry about that stuff anymore. As Zack spoke Denzel lifted his head slightly. "Everyone gets hurt to keep me alive, they die, or they leave. It's never any other way. You'll be hurt too if you try to keep me safe."

He had never expressed that to anyone, not Cloud or Tifa, or even Marlene. It was something he had kept tight even though a few people knew his story. He had told Cloud and Tifa when he was taken in, and he had told Reeve when he had asked for his background when he had tried to join the WRO. But Zack had to know what the price would be in his mind. Cloud had gotten sick and no matter what something would have happened anyways.

The hand was placed on his head and he looked up slightly. Zack wanted to help him get strong, and that was all he needed. "Okay," Denzel finally said. He would get strong, no matter what it took.

The sun streamed through the large windows in the room, and bright blue eyes blinked awakening the sleeping ex-general. His eyes wandered over to the large sword shaped hole in the wall and winced, after the attack on his mind from Jenova last night he had lost it and created that hole. He rubbed at his head and let out a sigh, he needed to talk to Sephiroth. He pulled himself out of bed and then wandered out into the hall, when finally he saw him.

"Seph!"
