Hojo realised where he went wrong with the boy and Valentine's Wutaian friend - why he had lost them to the two first class SOLDIERs. He had lost sight of his goal with the new discovery of the wings. His intention was to get revenge on Vincent, not mess around with people infected with strange cells. Although, on the plus side, he did come up with a plan to use the cells against his enemy. Walking around the outskirts of Kalm with a couple minions in lab coats, Hojo spotted it. The familiar red strands of life which had not become a living body. Chaos. Without a host, Chaos didn't have a body and was doomed to remain a part of the lifestream, regardless of the planet's current crisis. But, that was all about to change. Hojo's minions collected the red life stream strands which was Omega's squire in a jar and then returned to their secret hideout where he begun tampering with Chaos' genes with those of the Behemoth cells he had put inside the young boy. Hopefully this would make Chaos even more powerful, and not even Valentine would be able to control the demon!

Locked away, bound to one place. Denzel felt his stomach tighten as he stared down. “It’s like Geostigma. If you had it you were hated, told to stay inside, no one would help. I was one of the lucky ones I had Cloud, Tifa, and Marlene who cared about me so I wasn’t alone. But everyone else... they hated us.”

The blue eyes flickered down to the ground. He remembered the cursing, the small stones pelted at him, telling him to stay away. Women and men hid their children and yelled at him to stay away.

Slowly he lifted his gaze up and he exhaled slowly. He wondered if Tifa and Marlene were alright, he probably wouldn’t even be let out. As he was led through Denzel followed closely and then felt the keycard pressed into his hand. Turning he glanced towards Zack and nodded before going into his own room.

He didn’t like being watched, but he liked being alone even less. The staff was removed and pulled out of the pack before being placed down. The boots came next and Denzel pulled his knees up to his chest and wrapped his arms around them. His head dropped slightly and he took a breath.

Ever since his parents died, when he had sat there alone staring at the TV until he finally dropped off to sleep on the mattress. Being alone scared him but he knew he couldn’t be, he needed to be brave. He had done it before, he could face a battle but it was being alone that scared him.

Forcing himself back to his feet Denzel explored the area, it was larger than the bedroom he shared with Marlene back in Seventh Heaven, and it felt empty, quiet. He hated it.

Returning to the bed he curled up and laid wide awake. He could only remember that voice, having called him her grandson. He knew that she spoke to all of them but the need to be stronger, to defeat the others returned.

Curling up slightly Denzel covered his ears as his eyes shut. He wanted the presence to go away, wanted to stop feeling the guilt, but it wouldn’t leave.

Sitting in his ofice, Zacks departure and Cloud sbehqvior, both weighing heavily on his mind, h eis interupted when his secretary buzzes ans rlays that
Ruffus was on the line.

Answering quidkly, "Hello," getting cut off as Rufus, talks. "I'll have to mqke sure eveyones asleep, but they'll have rooms. So who was it?!

"We need to talk and soon Rufus, deal with whatever it is you have to now. But we need to meet today!"

Sephiroth continued his trek towards the lift and took it down without another word. Trapped, in a way it was so much like ShinRa. Nibelheim was the only time he broke free from their chain only to be enslaved once again, this time by Jenova. His life had always been chosen for him, either as ShinRa's pet project or Jenova's obedient son. He refused to become that again, however where he went now was unknown.

"Sirs, here are your keycards."

Sephiroth glanced back at the soldier and gave the briefest of nods before handing the one marked for Genesis to him. It was the next day that would be a trial, facing the meeting with Rufus and Reeve where the actions in Junon would need to be explained. Turning away from his friend he focused on the door in front of him and opened it.

Kadaj swooped down into Midgar, landing in front of the ShinRa building with a smirk. He looked back to his brothers, waiting for them to join him... rolling his eyes as he noted that Loz was once again naked.

"There's a reason, it seems, that Mother clothed us originally," he muttered to himself, looking back at the tower he had only known as rubble previously. Though the mucus film would be of no threat to him, he still avoided touching the building, waiting patiently for the trio to be complete once again before proceeding.

Yazoo landed beside Kadaj and grinned at the sight of the building. "We're here at last, Mother." He said and turned to watch Loz land.. naked. Yazoo just mentally face palmed but said nothing about it. Turning he looked back to Kadaj looking at the wall and waited to see what would happen.

"Whenever you are ready, brother." He said softly with a grin.

Tseng just remained silent as Reno prattled on about... well he didn't know nor did he care right now.. all he cared about was the strange tingling he felt in his hands. I'm infected with Jenova.. he thought, closing his eyes again and taking a breath he tried to focus his thoughts inwardly, calming himself and seeking internal peace and meditation.

Somewhere in the back of his mind his voice was purring softly. Mother.. it whispered and he twitched, trying to block it out.

"Tseng... Say something, yo," Reno said quietly, looking across to him. His wing twitched, betraying just how anxious he was at that moment. "Even if it's to yell at me... something would be good right about now."

He knew that Tseng's calm was something that had taken years to perfect, that it was a fragile mask that could shatter at any moment.

If there was anything guaranteed to break the calm, it was Jenova.

He paused and checked his thoughts. No, he was ok. It was still 'Jenova' to him. None of that 'Mother' crap... yet. He knew it was a possibility that he would fall to it too.

Loz landed and ignored the jib from Kadaj about being naked. It did not matter to Loz, Mother would help him out, she did the first time he was made and Loz had faith that she would again.

The building did not disturbed the brute in anyway. It was just another extension of Mother, proof of her power. It made Loz proud to know that Mother had done this. Loz watched as it pulsed, almost as if welcoming the trio back, and also showing them the way to their Mother.

Smiling Loz still waited for Kadaj though, the youngest was the leader and should see Mother first.

Cid had not gotten fully in the room so was still outside when the door was shut. He was going to say something when Rufus addressed him. All that happened was Cid snorted some laughter though. Oh Cid was going to remember that for a long time to come, that was fer sure! How many people go to see Rufus like that? and by his own employee!

The pilot wanted to chuckle but the realsation that Reno, and now Tseng were infected stopped him, "oh #$@&%^' Hell" Cid said raising his hand to his temple, "this ain't good at *&@#%^' all." Cid looked at the door. He wanted to much to go to his old friend but Cid knew now was not the time.

After a moment Cid moved to Rufus, careful not to touch the other incase he was infected too. Cid had no idea what to do or how to go about it now. It seemed a bit more hopeless now that Tseng was infected.

the pilot also made a mental note to get whole gloves and a sleeved shirt from now on.

"Tseng and Reno. I'll be coming to your office soon... Give me fifteen minutes."
Rufus flipped the phone shut.

Ice he needed it. He looked at back Cid stopping by the ice machine.
His head hurt, his eye throbbed. He yanked off his jacket, tearing the fabric at the bottom clean off.
Dark Nation had left a pretty good mark.

Reno and Tseng, they were more than employees to him.
"Damnit."
Rufus punched the ice machine. The ice clattered into the tray below.
He piled some into the part he had torn from his jacket and placed it over his eye.
Looking to the dent in the ice machine he huffed.
He must have really been mad, he barley broke anything. He never made physical dents in anything.
That was SOLDIER, but he had heard about emotional strength.
This was his first experience of that.
Looking to his hand his knuckles weren't even bruised.

Rufus took a few steps back and let against the wall sliding down it.
His head was beginning to throb harder, Reno must have whacked him pretty good.

Tseng opened his eyes slowly a flash of green in his other dark iris' for a second before he looked to Reno. "I was trying to meditate, Reno." He said softly before turning his head back to the front and closing his eyes again with a sigh.

Cid had no idea what to do. Oh yeah it was funny at first, but seeing Rufus like this went from funny to wrong to quickly. If anyone thought that Rufus did not care about anything all they had to see was him right now. the pilot felt bad for the other guy at this moment, losing Tseng and Reno in one shot.

Moving over to the kitchen Cid started to go though the all the cupboards searching. When he finally found were a bit of alcohol Cid grabbed the bottle and two glasses walking back over to the ice despencer. getting out a few cubes each Cid poured him and Rufus a glass.

"'Ere. Stupid weak ^%@& but it'll due fer now." Cid said then drained his own glass.

Rufus nodded his head at Cid. He removed the ice from his eye.
"Thanks." He took the glass and downed the alcohol quickly.
Raising a brow at the glass. Cid was right it was weak.
"I'll speak to Reeve about getting something stronger for this floor."

Rufus knew he had to get things organized and sorted for Reno and Tseng's transport.
But really, this was one of those times where he didn't want to do a thing.
Rare occasion of do not want, that he normally kicked to the side.

Rufus always made sure he appeared cold, heartless, so his true weakness' were never revealed.
But this was getting ridiculous. When his own team was hit with this plague.
He actually felt lost. He didn't have a clue what he would do.

"Is there sum #*&^ I can do to help?" Cid said as he refilled both of their glasses. He then pulled out a smoke and light it, offering one to Rufus. Cid was pretty sure there was not a lot he could do. Cid was a pilot, and ex-ShinRa worker and he was not going to start doing it now. But Cid felt he owed it to Tseng to at least try and help out. Cloud had wondered off though Cid could always go back up and see Vincent and Yuffie...

But the blond was not one to leave his friends, even if Rufus was not a friend, Tseng was, and something told Cid this was either all going to be ok, or end very, very badly. Cid was only hoping Tseng could remain in control...

Rufus took the cigarette that Cid offered him.
"I'm going to move them in the morning. I've got to see Reeve soon."

Borrowing Cid's lighter he lit the cigarette. Taking a long drag.
He didn't normally smoke, the occassional cigar for celebrations.
But never actual cigarettes, but he felt like he needed it.
"If you can watch them while I go see Reeve to organize their move."
Rufus was actually grateful for the offer of help.

Letting out a breath he downed the refill.
Taking another drag, he placed the ice pack back on his eye.
"There's not much we can do apart from make them feel as comfortable as possible."

Cid was glad that they were talking at little. it was almost getting to mushy for Cid. The cigarette was helping too, and if Rufus was going to see Reeve soon hopefully a bottle of $#&% was on its way soon.

"Sure, I ain't gots #$*&^@' prob waitin' 'ere 'n watchin'" Cid took another long drag and drained his glass. There was no point in waisting it even if it was to weak for any situation. "Better get some $#&%^ smokes for Red and some good quality coffee for Tseng 'n I think they will be as @#^&$%' comfterable as anyone could be now." Cid poured himself another glass. He could do babysitting duty.

Rufus stood up and he let out a breath. He picked up his torn jacket and dumped it in the bin.
He nodded his thanks to Cid. He placed the ice pack to his eye.
"I'll make sure it is worth the label it's printed on."
Walking to the elevator, it felt weird to be unescorted.
He was so used to having Tseng or Reno with him at least no matter where he went.

Taking the lift to the lower level he let himself into the science lab. It was empty there was no one working there.
A coffee sat on the desk still warm and a half eaten sandwich that meant he had a limited time to work.
Setting the ice pack on the counter he started going through the drawers.
It was just a wing that had hit him. He shouldn't be concerned.
The wings weren't skin it was like hair, Rufus doubted hair could be contaminated.
Pulling out a tourniquet, still packaged needle and syringe, he had to make sure.

He would see Reeve after this. He didn't know what possessed him to want to know.
But the lack of having Reno and Tseng to watch his back unnerved him.
Cissnei was one Turk she couldn't be expected to watch him all the time.

Sitting down he hooked the tourniquet up. He took a blood sample checked his pulse.
Everything he could do on his own. Before taking notes and leaving the blood sample under the rush pile.
He grabbed the ice pack before heading back to the lift and getting off on Reeve's floor.
He walked to the office door ready to knock.
He could feel something throbbing in his head. It caused him to falter for a moment.
Vision blurring slightly he sucked in a breath trying to place the mask of control back on.
One more dab from the ice pack and he dropped it in the bin.
He didn't even knock before entering Reeve's office.

"Reeve. It's time we had a talk."

Cid watched the younger man go and sighed. This was not the @#*& he wanted on his day back. first finding out old enemies were back, his friends Cloud and Yuffie were infected by Jenova, even his enemies were too and felt her call, his ship was contaminated and needed to be cleaned up and now all this?

Cid moved to the living area and found an ashtray. as soon as one smoke was done he light another one. Hopefully Rufus asked for some more smokes for Cid too. if not Cid was going to have to find the shop and get some himself the way he was going through these

"Ah, so now it a problem." he remarks as Rufus storms into his office. The normally calm Shinra president finally ruffled by his own ineptitude.

"Rufus I suggest you sit and listen for once. This problem is getting worse by the moment. We ave four already gone to Jenova, three known defectors, and one questionable act of stupidity. At least that's all im hoping it is. We have Sephiroth, Genisis, and Cloud all on the verge, and now we lose two of your team. And if your tempermant tells me anything, its that your finally ready to take this problem seriously. Now im open to any rational suggestion. With the testing floors gone and their data, we have no way to counternact Jenova. It's down to you me and our ability to out think everyone else.

Motinijg to a chair, he adjusts his seat so to lean across his deask to emphisise their problem.

Rufus sat down sucking in a breath.
Four gone to Jenova. The comment of questionable stupidity, meant one person only.
Zack.
That much was obvious. The first touched was normally the first to fall.

"You don't think I was taking this seriously?" Rufus growled low.
"Of course I was! I'm taking this very seriously. Even before now!"
His hand moved to the side of his throbbing head.
He never had let anger get the better of him. But it was hard to control it right now.

"I collected the sample from Midgar in hopes your scientists might have got some answers."
He rolled his eyes. "They told me the base of the infection in the buildings that it moves at a slower rate-"
He stopped. "A different strand of infection." He looked down.
He shook the thought away. He had been out in Midgar with Tseng, Tseng was infected by Reno. He didn't feel infected.
"Your idiot lab assistant lost the sample we could of had a cure or an antidote in the attempts of being started now."

Rufus lent back in the chair he was agitated, irritable,and he didn't know why.
Maybe because finally things had gotten out of control... out of his control.

Listening tonthe strian in Rufus's voice braught a smile to his mouth. " Yes, you took it serious, but even younwere slow to act on anythingnuntil you had proof of an infection. The error in that thinking is that to prevent an infection, you actully have to prevent it. Unfoprtunately for us we have a wild card playing in this matter, we technically two, Zack Fair, and Yuffie Kisaragi. Both have the inablilty to not touch anyone they come in contact with. Now as far as theybare concerned, our biggest worry at the moment is Mr.Fair, Miss Kisaragi, can be controled with minimal persausion. Our next biggest problem is one Cloud Strife, among the group he is the key element in the deepgroung movement, and now seems to be part of some power bid Jenova has set amongst her "children". As far as to the stain of infection, how it started, and spread.means little.when it finally takes affect. Although if it is as younsay a slower forming infedtion, it would be wise to get tested daily, twice a day.

Turning towards his window, he looks out over the scene and sighs. "We were caught completely unawares, as to the happenings of the different teamw running about, that needs to be rectified, as well as who goesnwith whom. We neednsome form of plan to keep from falling apart. Any brilliant ideas?

Rufus shot Reeve a dark look. That accusation that he didn't do anything until he had proof, it irked him.
"Just remember who funds your little operation here. It would be wise to not get yourself cut off, should I go to the dark side."
Reeve didn't know what he had been doing before he showed up at the WRO at the Director's summon for a merger.

Rufus had been busy trying to mark down all the locations the life stream had traversed before it infected Weiss.
He had been himself investigating points of return, taking soil samples of each of the prominent locations through Gaia history.
From the Northern Crater to the location of Zack's death. Nibelhiem manor he had been to all those places himself.
Gathering personal soil and land samples.
He had even dragged a couple of the decomposing bodies of monsters back to the lab.

No one was returned to the lifestream anymore. Not unless the mortal entity of the lifestream touched them.
This world was well and truly beyond anything he could do to help repair it.
When you died that was it you died no more promised land. All that was left was your rotting corpse.

Rufus stood up slowly listening to Reeve explain about Zack, Yuffie and Cloud.
"Keep Cloud and Sephiroth on our side and Zack will return. I'd bet my inheritance on that."
Rufus moved to the wall to lean against it.
"Between there being no where for our souls to rest, DeepGround and Jenova. I have to honestly say, I have no solution."
He let out a breath. "Keep everyone alive that's all we can do. Find the head of DeepGround take him out their faction will fall."
Rufus moved to sit down, he flopped into the chair. His hand gripping the metal arm rest.
He was angry at himself. "Remove DeepGround first, otherwise they will do nothing but get in our way. We are not equipped enough to take on the calamity herself."
He stopped suddenly as he felt the metal buckle under his hand like plastic and he let go of the arm rest.
His eyes falling to the bent metal. "I've already had some blood taken and put it on a rush status."
Eyes lingering to the crushed metal. Was he that emotional he could bend metal in his bare hand?
He didn't think so.

The first being retaining control.of both Cloud and Sephiroth, and keepin gthem from each others throats.if either one or the other is on the opposing side. Im sure you've seen the havoc the two.of them can wrwak from just fighting eachother. As for the leader of Deepgroung, he or she had appearently sent Cloud a welcoming gift in Junon, whether it was meant for him or he and Sephiroth just happened tonwalk into a trap is unknown, but from overhearing conversations on the roof. They had to fight Neo Bahamut. And thats no liht wieght.

Turning back to Rufus, "And as for knowing where my funding comes, i remember perfectly well. But you left me in charge ofnthis project. Not to mention you dissapeared and rthen decided to resurface later. But im not here to argue semantics. Or play who has more.clout. The WRO's mission is to rebuild our world. But at the moment we are failing miserably. I'm pooloing all my resources into arming any and all capable men to fight. I know that you have your resources as well, and i would like to merge the two factions for the duration of this mess. If you are in agreement of course. A fter that we need to meet wijth our resident infected, and find out what they found. It could be the turning point we need. But lets deal with business first shall we?

Rufus let out a breath. "Very well I will agree to this merger... but just so you are aware with my men getting infected..."
He crossed his arms where he sat. "I'm going to be reactivating SOLDIER."

Reeve would have no say in this matter, it had been decided and this was Rufus' project alone.
"When we hit Jenova, and I fear we will, after DeepGround. We want something that will pack a punch."
In Rufus' mind nothing hurt more than a Mako infused fist to the face.
"So let the business pact begin."

[FYI SOLDIER is going to be reinstated in the next arc...
it has been previously discussed... any candidates ;p?
