As Reno tossed and turned in his bunk, Dark Nation slipped to the ground, nudging him with a soft whine. He didn't feel the hound, his mind trapped in a darkness he couldn't understand, a whispering voice darting around him and disappearing again when he turned to look in the direction it came from.

My children...
My children...
My children...

Reno woke with a start, sitting bolt upright as he hand clasped his left shoulder, panting hard as he tried to calm down from the nightmare, a confusing sense of guilt gripping his chest.

The hound whimpered again and bowled back onto the bed and into his lap, licking his cheek and resting his head on the TURK's shoulder. Reno give a faint smile and wrapped his arms around him, sniffing slightly as he held back the intense wave of emotion.

"Was just a bad dream, yo," Reno murmured, gently stroking the hound. "Just a bad dream. I'll be ok, you silly thing."

He wasn't sure if he was talking to DN or himself.

Zack scratched the side of his face.
"Okay this will probably wear you out but I wanna work on your materia reflexes next."
He thought about it. "So I'm going to call out which materia to use and you're to do it."
He ruffled Denzel's hair.
"You miss a beat you gotta drop and gimmie ten you got that?"
Zack stepped back. He wasn't trying to be hard on Denzel but he had limited time to teach in, he didn't know how he knew but he felt it.
"This is in case we're thrust into battle again in the next few days. You need to react and activate the materia without thinking."

Did Jenova's earlier guilt trip make him anxious?
He wasn't sure. But he had to get Denzel up to the speed of WRO infantry before the next battle.
Zack felt it would be soon, they raided DeepGround stole their files.
He knew that they would retaliate the question was when?
If Zack wasn't near he wouldn't be able to help Denzel, so he was going to push the teen to his limits.

The next one was going to make him think, that much he was sure of. Holding his staff in one hand Denzel's eyes locked on Zack and he gave a nod. "Yep, I got it."

The idea of training and learning excited him, especially since it was just another way he could fight. He was going to keep getting stronger and this was what he had wanted above all. Briefly he thought of Tifa and Marlene, and wondered if they were okay. He hadn't seen Tifa since she left and Marlene since he had left and been kidnapped by Hojo.

Johnny had tried to convince him there were other ways but deep down Denzel knew that there were not other ways for him. Fighting was what he needed, something so completely different than what his own father had accomplished but he realized that each day the pain of losing his parents seemed to lesen and more and more he wanted Cloud to be the one proud of him, and now Zack as well.

When he had suddenly wanted to hear Zack's praises he didn't know but it had become something he now yearned for in these practices.

"Awesome." Zack smirked and jumped back a few feet.
"I'll start the combos slow, then pick them up."

Zack kept his eyes on Denzel smiling. his determination that look behind those blue eyes.
It was like he was seeing Shinra infantry Cloud all over again.
"Jump then Cure. Jump. In that order."

It was certainly not instinct, he needed to think for a moment before his mind landed on jump. He was launched in the air and landed closer to his initial spot, the shock of the landing still was unusual and hard on his legs. His mind switched to cure though it took a few moments and the light bathed over him for a moment before moving to jump, this time a little faster than the last one. When he hit the ground around he looked up at Zack.

He wouldn't give up, not until he got it. He couldn't give in, if he did that every time something got hard Geostigma would have killed him long ago.

"Okay, I'm ready."

"Good work lets turn it up a notch shall we? No more than a ten second interval between each." Zack smirked at Denzel.
"Cure jump jump jump cure jump cure cure jump."

He stepped back and waited to see if Denzel would get the combo with the limited time arranged.
Granted Angeal had never done this kind of training with him, he knew it would be needed for Denzel.

he had one more combo for Denzel after this then he knew the kids MP would run out and an esuna would be needed.
If Denzel got the third combo Zack would definitely reward the teenager with some gil, to spend on accessories.

Denzel tried to focus on the words and tried to memorize the pattern. He remembered games from when he was little, needing to copy a rhythm, it was kinda like that. Focusing on the first command the warm green lightly spread around him. It took a few moments to focus on the next one, being thrown into a jump. The shock of landing was hard on his feet but his staff made it easier, able to break his fall with it.

It still took several moments to focus on the next in the pattern, his mind trying to focus on each command, moving into the second jump and then the third. It was getting harder now, as the cure flowed through him again. It took moments longer to remember the next one and was launched into another jump, followed by a cure and then another one.

It ended with the final jump and he looked up at Zack, wondering if he had remembered the pattern correctly. Cloud had told him to listen and learn, and he would do just that.

Zack broke out in to a grin. "Okay color me impressed you got that."
He nodded at Denzel. "Lucky last. After this it'll be time for us to rest up for the night."

Zack continued to smile.
"Jump jump jump jump cure jump cure jump cure cure jump jump jump."
He nodded at Denzel to begin.

This was something that Genesis rarely ever did. For years when they were in Shinra he was so focused in trying to be better than Sephiroth, to become the hero. Never before had Genesis put his guard down long enough to let Sephiroth in. Only a few times had Genesis spent his time holding and comforting his friend, the times when things with Hojo grew incredibly worse. Now just like those times Sephiroth was standing here holding Genesis, something that no one aside from the two friends truly understood.

All he had to do was be able to fight against Jenova for as long as he possibly could, he had to do it for Sephiroth and for Angeal. He would not stop this fight and he wasn't about to let Jenova win, not even if it killed him.

"Seph... you're right, let's go."

Sephiroth released Genesis as he took a step away from him. He motioned towards the lift. "The infected have been assigned the thirteenth floor. We might as well go and get settled. They will likely have showers there where you can wash up."

He pulled away and turned back towards the lift. He could not allow Jenova's whispers to reach his mind, to force his resolution to waver. As he continued to walk past the others he did not say a word. He could feel the mistrust, however that was not a surprise. He had more to atone for than really any. In Jenova's name he had tried to destroy the planet, would he ever find his redemption?

It couldn't matter now however.

Denzel focused intently on the words, his mind already working to try to memorize the pattern. He focused on it and the first jump was activated, followed by the second. He knew his body was tired but he had to do this and finish this out. It was a strange sort of tired, not as physically so as the training but deep inside, the power that was inside and connected to the materia, it seemed to be tiring.

Jump was activated a third time followed by a fourth and then cure. The green light flooded through his body and there was relief, his legs having started to ache after the four jumps.

His mind automatically moved to a single jump, then another cure, slowly not needing to focus as much to activate them. Denzel felt his body launched into another jump then healed by a cure, followed by three jumps. When finally he landed he leaned on the staff. His muscles did not ache as much however the power inside of him seemed to have dimmed.

It felt strange that he could walk and seemed to have physical energy even though the spot inside him was so thoroughly exhausted, unable to concentrate on much. He wanted to keep training but after the long day sleep sounded even better. "Zack... will you teach me to dodge bullets?"

Like Zack and Cloud did... he needed to be able to do that, but later. The uses of curaga and potions throughout the long battle that morning were already wearing on him and his breathing was shaky. He needed sleep.

Cid muttered as he moved over to stand next to Tseng. He was not happy, but he was not going to miss this chance to see his old co-worker.

"Hey yah Tseng," Cid said as he got near and offered his hand, "Been a $#@^%#' while, eh?" He smiled. IT was not fully forced but everything that Reeve and his passangers had thrown at him had put him off course. This was not how he expected his trip here to be.

It was shortly after that Cid watched the guilt hit their party. Yuffie with her breakdown, and even Sephiroth trying to fight it. Cid just raised an eyebrow at them not fully understanding. He had not been with them long enough to know what Jenova was doing to them all. A frown made its way back on to Cid's face

"Oi Tseng, promise ta give me a real *&^%$@'update me on all this @#&^ when we get to our stupid floor, rooms things?"

Tseng nodded to Rufus. "Of course, Sir. I'll be moving my office to our new location if you need me." He explained and looked over as Cid approached him. Just what I needed. He muttered mentally and sighed. "Still as crude as ever, aren't you Highwind." He stated with a very slight hint of amusement as he shook the pilot's hand. "I will update you with what you're cleared to know once people here are sorted into where they will be staying." He nodded in agreement. There was definitely still that easy old friendship they'd hand when Tseng was a young TURK and Cid was building his space plans for the company, it was like things hadn't really changed between them over the years, even though it'd actually been years since they talked.

It took a moment before Loz realised that Kadaj was trying to break away. The stronger of the trio released his hold on Kadaj and was glad to see that Kadaj was giving orders again. All was how it should be, Bothers, together for their Mother.

“Le-lead the way.” Loz muttered to Kadaj. Loz was sure that Mother would make sure the trio got to her. He did not worry at all about flying or falling. Mother would bless them and their trip to see her. No one on the roof would be able to stop them either. If they tried Loz would take care of them, let Kadaj and Yazoo go. Loz was stronger and would make sure his brothers got off safely.

Loz was letting the anger wash over him now, his tears and crying stopped, even if his cheeks still had evidence of them. Mother’s children ignoring her call, not going to her side to help her was un heard of. He could not believe it! Loz’s fist clenched and his body tensed for a fight. The short haired remnant would let the anger guide him, fight with it as well as Mother’s love.

Yazoo smiled when Kadaj came with them and took the lead, as it should be with them. Feeling Loz getting angry he wondered what started that reaction and he just squeezed his elder brother's hand gently in comfort as they came out onto the rooftop.

Flexing out his wing he glanced back at it. "Hope I don't fall." He muttered softly, big brother Seph made it look so easy.. flying with one wing. Letting go of Loz's hand he ignored the looks they were getting from the guards on the roof and walked to the edge of the building, glancing at his brothers. Mostly looking at Kadaj for the signal to go.

Kadaj gave a nod, tipping off the edge of the building, both wings unfurling and catching the up-draft, beating against it and steadying his descent. He pushed himself back up, turning to look at his brothers, hovering in place in case he needed to catch them.

He held his hand out to them with a small smile. "Come with me, brothers."

“Cleared to know eh? Still up ta the same ol’ $%^@ yah TURKs are.” But Cid was still smiling as he said it. They always had this relationship. It did not matter how many years passed, they were always friends. Even when on opposite sides Cid was sure they would have been like this. Though he was glad they never met during that time. “Yah &%#%$’ know I ain’t gunna every @#&%^’ change, eh!”

Cid was going to say something else when movement in the sky caught his eye. He turned to see the three Sephiroth groupy-looking guys on the roof, wings out and flying.

“Sumthin’ tells me this ^%@* ain’t gunna end well.” He muttered.

Yazoo sighed and nodded to Kadaj. "Here goes.. come on Loz." He glanced at the elder one then looked back to the younger, taking a step off the roof and flailing slightly as he started to fall before catching the up-draft and rising up to Kadaj's side. "Well that was interesting." He said as he hovered there, wing moving slightly in the air current.

Loz willed his wing to come out. Smirking Loz just stepped back letting his body fall and trusting his body and Mother. Before he fell to far the wind filled his wing and he was lifted up to join the other two.

“Mother will punish you all!” he called out before he could stop himself, not that it mattered. It was the truth after all. Loz turned away from them and moved towards Kadaj. It was a bit strange at first but the use of his wing was in his blood. The blood he shared with Sephiroth and that his Mother gave him. It was through her that he was able to take up the flying so easily.

Loz gave his Mother a silent prayer.

A helicopter flew by the silver haired trio swiftly, maybe a little too close, and circled around to land near the airship. Jumping out the young girl ran a hand through her hair and waved bye to the pilot as the chopper took off again. "See ya!" She grinned and turned to look at the massive airship infront of her and the surrounding group. "Um.. hey guys."

Spotting Rufus and Tseng, she grinned and ran over to them, coming to attention and saluting them. "TURK Cissnei reporting for duty, sirs! Um.. and what's going on around here?" She added lightly, her gaze flicking over to where Sephiroth and Genesis were standing.

Answering his phone as he heads into the building. "Reeve here." Listening toCloud, he sighs, an drubs his head. "Cloud, I already planned tha t.ahead, if you go down the hall to the waiting room, you will.see all the door cards for that floor. There should be enough there for at least 30 people, which I doubt you have that many. Now if there is nothing else, I've got things to do. Goodnight Cloud."

Entering his office, he heads for his desk, hittong his intercom, he tells his secretary to hold all.calls,.and turn away all visitors. Sitting behind gis desk, he rubs his head and wonders how the hell was he ever going to pull this off?

Tseng nodded in quiet amusement to Cid and looked up at the sky where the pilot was looking. "Looks like the first have fallen, not surprising it was them." He mused out loud, eyes flickering over to Sephiroth and Genesis curiously as the helicopter came in to land.

He wasn't at all surprised to see who it was returning as she was due back this week from her mission. "Cissnei," he greeted her with a slight nod. "escort the President back to the 12th floor and then report to me for a debriefing." He looked at Cid. "Come, I'll fill you in on what I can." He said to the pilot and turned to talk to the elevator.

Zack smiled at Denzel, he almost had the combo.
Almost.
"You missed only one cure in there."
If Denzel didn't look so tired he would have told him to drop and give him ten.
The time of night or early morning he didn't want to over work him.
Reaching into his pocket he pulled it out and placed it in Denzel's hand.
"For doing as as well as you did." It was an extra accessory slot.

Looking to the door he led Denzel out.
"Tomorrow I'll teach you how to dodge bullets or deflect those you can't dodge."

The door swished close after they left and Zack found himself stopping suddenly.
The Remnants, he could feel their presence drifting away from the building and he frowned.
Maybe he needed a word with those three. Hell he still needed a word with Jenova.
He was walking with Denzel down the hall when they were stopped.

"Sir we've been informed you two are infected you shouldn't be on this floor."
"Eh?"
"The thirteenth Floor sir. Please for the sake of the rest of us not infected."
Zack sighed and rolled his eyes.
"Thirteenth floor it is then."

Dark Nation nuzzled Reno's ear and licked his cheek with a soft whine. He knew something was wrong - something that he couldn't understand or heal for the human.

He wriggled from the hold with a quiet bark, turning and heading to the door, with years of practice opening it with ease and slipping out. His Master would know what to do with the redhead, his Master always knew what to do.

He trotted down the hallway, tackling another door and looking to the elevator and then the stairwell. He sat, head cocked as he contemplated the two, quickly on his feet again and going to the stairwell, manipulating the door open and then bounding down the stairs.

He ignored the various yells and yelps that came in his direction from the workers he passed - they were unimportant when compared to his family.

Tongue lolling he trotted outside once again, nose in the air as he picked up his Master's scent, snorting softly as he realised the trail led back inside the building. He turned and sniffed the air again - the dark haired one would do.

He bound over to Tseng, stopping at his feet with a soft whine, nudging his thigh for attention.

Rufus had watched the trio vanish off the side of the building.
He heard the helicopter behind him then became aware of Cissnei's voice.
A small smirk passed his lips. She had been away for a very long time.
In fact he himself had lost contact but he trusted that Tseng knew where she was.
All that was left was for Rod and the others to check in, for Elena to contact Tseng.
Then he would be satisfied that his family was okay.

When Tseng left him and Cissneo there, she was to escort him back.
But he could only walk to the edge of the building and look on watching the Remnants heading towards Midgar.
"Cissnei." He spoke his voice calm and cool not wavering.
"The dead have been revived by the lifestream, in the attempt for some kind of purge started by tampering."
He looked over his shoulder at her. "Zack is one of those revived along with them."
Rufus jerked his head in the direction of Sephiroth and Genesis.
Turning round he walked towards the elevator.
Pushing the button for down.
